Renfe – Spain’s rail operator
Renfe is the state-owned company responsible for managing Spain’s train routes. They include long-distance, regional and commuter networks (called Cercanias). And they have a range of different trains such as the AVE trains, which are built for the high-speed routes.
Madrid Atocha is a hub for the high-speed AVE network with many of the routes linking key cities around the country to the capital. But there are other train services available from here that connect to other cities not on the high-speed routes.
In addition to managing passenger routes, the company also offers other passenger services. They include Atendo, which provides assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. They also operate a series of Sala Clubs (passenger lounges) available for people on ‘Preferente’ tickets.
Enjoy your time at Madrid-Atocha.
