Navarre in northern Spain is perhaps best known for its capital, Pamplona. And even more so for Pamplona’s annual San Fermin festival featuring the running of the bulls. However, venture beyond the capital and you’ll find a diverse region featuring forests, mountains and deserts.
The region also boasts charming, historic towns such as Tudela, which is a great base for exploring the Bardenas Reales National Park. Los Arcos and Roncesvalles on the border with France are other highlights. And like Pamplona, Roncesvalles is a key stop on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail.
Getting there and around
From Madrid Atocha, you can reach Navarre with the direct train service to Pamplona. You can also reach Tudela, Navarre’s second biggest city, from Madrid via Zaragoza. However, once there, a car hire is the most convenient way to get around.
Enjoy your time at Madrid-Atocha.
